Car manufacturers head to Downing Street

Posted by Susannah Mayers

Some of the largest car manufacturers in Europe visited Downing Street today (June 9th) to discuss the UK's automotive industry.

The prime minister hosted the meeting with the European Automobile Manufacturer's Association's (ACEA's) board of directors.

Later, the ACEA held its annual conference in what was the first to be held in the UK.

"Today's meeting is a clear indication of the real strength of the UK's automotive sector and that the government's focus on growth, manufacturing and skills has gained international recognition," a statement from the UK government read.

Prime minister David Cameron said that he wants to do everything he can to encourage the return of production and supply chain to the UK.

He went on to say that he would do so by reducing the rates of corporate tax and setting up the Regional Growth Fund.

Earlier this month, a report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed that some 149,080 cars were registered across the UK in May. ADNFCR-2370-ID-800574028-ADNFCR
