High fuel prices to be debated by MPs
Posted by Susannah Mayers
The high cost of petrol and diesel is to be discussed and challenged by MPs next week.
A debate on the subject is to be held on Tuesday (June 14th) at 13:00 BST in Westminster Hall.
The discussion has been called by Robert Halfon, who is the Conservative MP for Harlow.
He said that the cost of fuel is currently the biggest issue in his constituency and many others across the UK.
"Motorists and businesses are genuinely suffering, and the high fuel price is an obstacle to bringing jobs back and getting our economy moving again," Mr Halfon said.
He highlighted that oil prices have fallen internationally, but that savings have not been passed on to the motorist at the pump.
Fuel duty was cut by 1p per litre by the government in its Budget, but many people and organisations feel this is not enough.
The FairFuelUK campaign has been created to fight for more reasonable petrol and diesel prices.

Quentin Wilsons is fronting the fair fuel campaign which is trying to pressurise the Coalition Government into cutting the tax on fuel. check out this blog on the same subject: http://www.motorquotedirect.co.uk/car-insurance-blog/2011/06/journalist-gets-into-top-gear-over-fuel-prices/
