Bluebird Electric is preparing for speed trials at Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire.

Set to take place on July 2nd and 3rd, the trials will assess whether it is likely the vehicle will be able to make a new world land speed record of more than 500 mph.

The car is to be driven by Don Wales, the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE, who gained the world speed record on land and on water at various times during the 1920s and 1930s.

Mr Wales established the UK land speed record for an electric car back in 1998 and in 2009 he set the current world land speed record for a steam car, reaching 148 mph.

Project director Martin Rees said: "Taking the car back to Pendine next month with improved drive and bodywork will be another chapter in the Campbell and Wales and Pendine story."

Mr Wales, his uncle Donald Campbell CBE and Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE have, between them, broken over 20 world land and water speed records.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800577311-ADNFCR
