New insurance laws should free up police time

New car insurance legislation that has come into force today (June 20th) should serve to free up police time to allow them to catch those who flout road-related laws, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed.
Under the new Continuous Insurance Enforcement law, it is illegal to own an uninsured car.
IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said that the new legislation will not have a negative effect on law-abiding drivers.
"This move should release police time to catch the minority who completely ignore the system – and literally fail to appear on it," he added.
Mr Greig went on to say that he would like to see the government invest more money in special cameras that automatically recognise number plates, so that those who continue to flaunt the law can be caught more easily.
Last week, Simon Elstow, head of training at IAM Drive and Survive, advised all motorists in the UK to take extra care when navigating rural roads.
