Potholes need to be addressed now

The state of the UK's roads needs to be addressed now, not through a long-term repair policy, Confused.com has claimed.

A new road sign showing a car driving through a pothole has been created by the website to highlight the issue.

The price comparison site is calling on the Department for Transport to introduce the new sign to roads across the UK.

Mike Hoban, chief marketing officer at Confused.com, said that, with existing road signs warning of wild horses, cattle and even toads, potholes should definitely be considered worthy enough.

"A pothole road sign is a vital step in preventing accidents and reducing insurance claims whilst road maintenance continues," he added.

Last month, Warranty Direct claimed that cost-cutting measures by local councils across the UK could make the pothole crisis even worse.

This followed an announcement from Lambeth Council, in south London, that it had redefined what it classed as a pothole.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800600544-ADNFCR

I have heard of people getting their wheels/rims/tires damaged by potholes and having to spend $500 to get it fixed. If you know the area and where the pothole is you can avoid it, however if you aren’t familiar with the area, I can see how you can get in an accident if you are going at 80 mph and not expecting the pothole… I can imagine that it can send the car into the other lane… I hate potholes.
