The new Jaguar XF has successfully completed a challenge, which saw it travel 816 miles on just one tank of fuel.

It left the plant at which is was created – Castle Bromwich in Birmingham – and travelled all the way across to Munich in Germany.

The vehicle was driven by independent tester David Madgwick, who was accompanied by navigator Alexander Madgwick.

It travelled over winding country roads, motorways and dense urban traffic across four countries to reach its destination.

The vehicle, which had just over 3,000 miles on the clock when it departed, consumed just 64 litres of fuel, averaging 57 mpg.

Andy Whyman, chief programme engineer for the XF, said: "The entire development team is very proud of what the new XF 2.2 has achieved – this not only proves the efficiency of the new model but underlines that performance and economy can be combined."

The 50th anniversary of the launch of the Jaguar E-type is set to be celebrated at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed this coming weekend.ADNFCR-2370-ID-800602464-ADNFCR
