Road signs need to be looked after

The government needs to look after road signs and markings if new in-car safety technology is to be effective.
This is according to Euro NCAP, which conducts crash tests in order to provide accurate information for consumers about the safety performance of their cars.
It has jointly issued a document called Roads that Cars can Read with the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP), which asserts that the condition of road signs and markings could hamper the success of safety technology that reads the road to prevent accidents.
John Dawson, chairman of EuroRAP, said: "Huge sums have been spent developing technology that is revolutionising the safety of our vehicles. Little attention has been given to the quality of basic signing and marking with which drivers currently have to cope."
Earlier this week, Confused.com created a road sign that is designed to warn drivers that there are potholes on the road ahead.

Signs that are covered with branches, so that reading is a dilema appears to be common!
Alongside at times having to read sign after sign at the same location. A bain on a recent long journey was mini roundabouts on the brew of a hill! Then having to drive a good few yards up from the junction to go round it, result…. Quite a few people going straight throw, thinking it was just a give wat.
There’s an area near me in Southampton where the 30 limit sign on a dual carriageway gets overgrown every summer – just a bit before a speed camera…
I really can’t think of any road signs where I lived that are old and hard to read; they are all pretty self-explanatory and in clear view without blockage from trees and branches or whatever. Only complaint I have is painted lines on the freeway. One some parts on certain freeways the lines aren’t clearly white (faded) and it’s hard to tell which lane is mine if there isn’t a car in front of me.
