Regular car checks and maintenance is vital

Regular maintenance and checks of your vehicle are absolutely essential if you want your pride and joy to look its best this summer.
A particular area of concern is the windscreen wipers, as they can often pick up dirt and sand which have the potential to leave small scratches on the windshield when you operate them – and, let's face it, the British summer will see its fair share of rainfall.
Vlad Samarin, editor of Samarins.com, said: "Scratches on the windshield affect visibility, as they cause wipers not to clean properly during rain as well as annoying glare when driving at night."
He also encouraged motorists to replace windscreen wiper blades if it is not possible to wash off all the sand, dirt and debris.
Another issue that should be kept on top of by all motorists is small scratches and stone chips on the bodywork. While they may seem trivial and easy to ignore, doing so could lead to a hefty repair bill down the line.
Touching up chips and small scratches on the paintwork as soon as you notice them is definitely advised because in time, they will corrode and become much more expensive to rectify.
Mr Samarin also urged drivers to take action if birds are continually targeting their vehicle, as acidic and abrasive droppings can cause stains on the paint.
He explained that the best way to remove bird droppings is to carry a spray bottle in the car to soak the excrement with water for a few minutes and then just spray them off. The stains can be easily buffed off with a fine polishing compound and then covered with car wax.
However, motorists need to be careful when polishing their vehicles; as every time a polish is used, it removes a small layer of paint in order to get rid of minor swirls and scratches, according to Waynne Smith, senior partner at TorqueCars.com.
