Is your car ready for winter?

Posted by Fiona Birkwood

With the winter weather definitely kicking in this week, what with ice and frost already here and the threat of snow on the horizon, you may be wise to ensure your car is in check to handle the hazardous conditions.

Car hire price comparison website Carrentals.co.uk and road safety charity Brake certainly believe we should be ready for the chilly months ahead.

That is why both organisations have paired up to present their latest Road Sense campaign, a strategy which can help you to participate in safe car journeys no matter what the weather may hold.

One of the main points which Brake and Carrentals.co.uk want to stress in the run up to winter is that safety checks are carried out on your vehicles regularly over the winter.

When it comes to maintaining a car, tyres and brakes should be top of the list for items to check, with Gareth Robinson, managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, explaining why.

"People need to know that spending money on getting their brakes and tyres checked out for winter is an investment in safety," he noted.

Katie Shephard, director at Brake, also acknowledged that you need to ensure safety is key when behind the wheel when the temperatures take a plunge and the snow begins to fall.

"We are delighted to team up with Carrentals.co.uk for the Road Sense campaign and the goal is that of reducing accidents throughout the UK this winter," she explained.

The launch of the Road Sense campaign follows on from a survey conducted by Carrentals.co.uk, which revealed that, out of 2,300 drivers, one in three did not have any plans to complete repairs on their motors.

When asked why they are intending to put off maintenance work, a lack of disposable money came out as the main reason for doing so.

However, Mr Robinson stated: "Basic features like the brake lights, brake pads and tyres should always be working properly, not just for your own personal safety but all the others on the road."
