What tops your Christmas pet hates?

While Christmas is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year, there is always something about the festive season that grinds your gears. Whether its spending hours on the packed roads driving to in-laws or the hassles of Christmas shopping.

However, those of us who have felt guilty about being disgruntled over the Christmas holidays can now rest easy, as it appears we aren't alone.

New figures revealed after a study from satnav giant TomTom have revealed the things us Brits dislike most about the Yuletide period.

Unsurprisingly, what is on the TV tops the list of Crimbo annoyances. With the festive period providing one of few opportunities for people to sit in front of the box, the last thing people want is old repeats.

The poor quality of programming gets on the nerves of 50 per cent of adults over Christmas, with festive traffic jams following up in second spot, cited by 45 per cent of people surveyed.

Driving to out of town shopping centres and the inevitable hours stuck getting there, waiting to park, getting out and then getting home would annoy even the most patient of shoppers.

Nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) spend five hours or more in the car over the festive break and 65 per cent drive up to 50 miles or more during that time, which perhaps makes the fact that one in four adults say they argue in the car at this time of year, mostly about directions, unsurprising.

You may think that simply flicking on the radio will sooth both the driver and passengers, but you'd be wrong, as Christmas songs were highlighted as major causes of irritation.

Sir Cliff's Millennium Prayer was named by 49 per cent of those who took part in the TomTom survey as the most likely song to get on people's nerves at Christmas, closely followed by Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade.

Writing out cards, eating/drinking too much, office parties, the January diet, driving to the in-laws and silly festive jumpers were also named as sources of annoyance over Christmas.ADNFCR-2370-ID-801256906-ADNFCR
