With the UK weather,
windscreen wiper
blades required to be 100% efficient. The importance of good
vision when driving has never been greater. Having wiper blades
that do not perform correctly can be very dangerous.
Wiper blades can cause a number of different hazardous situations:
1) Lines The wiper blades rubber can harden or become damaged
with age. The result: fine semi circular lines of water on the
windscreen.
2) Bands The wiper blades rubber can harden or become damaged
with age. The result: thick bands of water are left on the windscreen.
3) Lace curtains - Arm defects or long periods in the park position
can deform the wiper blades lip causing a veil effect across
the windscreen. Visibility danger is greatest at night, when
passing other vehicles.
4) Chatter hopping - Deformed wiper element, worn blade linkage
or a change in wiper arm characteristics can cause wiper blades
to judder across the screen leaving behind radial streaks.
5) Unwashed areas - Deterioration of wiper blades linkage or
decreased wiper pressure can leave parts of the windscreen unwashed.
6) Noise - Noisy wipers may be sign that the wiper element is
deformed or hardened or that the wiper blades structure is worn.
7) Vibration judder - Deformed wiper element, the wrong adaptor
or aging and wear of the wiper blades rubber and links can result
in jerky and sometimes noisy wiper arm movement.
8) Wind lift - If high speeds persistently cause the wiper to
miss out parts of the windscreen, either the wiper blades or
the wiper arm should be replaced.
If any of the above is occurring with your wiper blades then
it is highly recommended to replace them to ensure you maintain
a high level of visibility for better driving safety.-- Remember,
this is an MOT failure.
